Referring Veterinarians

Please contact Dr. Nie to discuss the potential benefit of integrative services for your patients.

You or your client can call to schedule a consultation appointment for their pet. Please complete and forward a referral form and all applicable medical record information including laboratory tests by fax prior to your client’s appointment. Radiographs may be mailed or sent electronically, if available. This allows Dr. Nie to review details of the case prior to the appointment and provide optimal patient care and client service. Additional copies of the record and/or radiographs may be sent with your client on the day of the consultation appointment. Radiographs will be returned by your client or by mail. If Dr. Nie feels additional diagnostic information is needed to better determine whether integrative therapy is appropriate or additional conventional treatment will be beneficial, the patient will be returned to your hospital for the services.

Scheduling an appointment for a dog or cat...

You or your referring veterinarian can call 417-866-2923 to schedule an appointment for your pet's initial exam and consultation.  If you do not have a regular veterinarian, please contact IVSMO and Dr. Nie will refer you to a doctor for a conventional workup.

Your pet's medical information should be forwarded to IVSMO before your appointment.  Plan to arrive at least 15 minutes before your scheduled appointment to complete the paperwork necessary to establish your pet's record.  You can save time at your initial visit by completing the following forms before arriving, Consent Form and Initial Visit Questionnaire.  Your pet's initial appointment will last about an hour.  Subsequent treatments will take 30-45 minutes.  Please complete the Follow-up Visit Questionnaire before your pet's next visit and bring it with you.

As a general rule, dog and cat patients are seen at our hospital facility. However, in some circumstances a home visit may be more appropriate for your pet's follow-up treatments.  In these situations an additional travel fee will apply.  When a home visit is scheduled, all applicable fees are required to be paid before Dr. Nie will travel to your home for your pet's scheduled appointment.  Payments can be made by credit card called into our office prior to your pets appointment.

You are welcome to bring along your pet's favorite toy, treat, or bedding to help ensure their complete comfort and relaxation during their visit.  Dr. Nie will examine your pet, answer any questions you may have and discuss whether integrative therapy is indicated for you pet's condition.  If further diagnostic information is needed or integrative therapy is not appropriate for your pet's condtion, Dr. Nie will discuss other options and refer you back to your veterinarian.

If Dr. Nie feels your pet will benefit from integrative therapy, he will administer the first acupuncture or other complementary treatment at the initial visit.  Subsequent treatments, as appropriate,  will be integrated with conventional therapy your veterinarian prescribes.  Your pet will benefit from the team approach Dr. Nie and your veterinarian will take in caring for your pet.

Scheduling an appointment for a horse...

The same procedures should be followed when scheduling an appointment for a horse.  You or your veterinarian can call 417-866-2923 to schedule an appointment for your horse's initial exam and consultation.  If you do not have a regular veterinarian, please contact IVSMO and Dr. Nie will refer you to a doctor for a conventional workup.

Your horse's medical information
including a Consent Form and Initial Visit Questionnaire should be forwarded to IVSMO before your appointment.  Equine patients are seen at the owner's facility or the referring veterinarian's hospital.  A barn-call fee applies in addition to regular treatment and consultation fees.  Initial and subsequent appointment times will vary with the condition being treated but generally will be longer than for dogs and cats.

All applicable fees are required to be paid before Dr. Nie will travel to your facility for a scheduled appointment.  Payments can be made by credit cared called into our office prior to your pets appointment.
